Now I find myself for more than two years almost entirely in the summer and would not mind if it stays that way. Currently, I enjoy it even in Leipzig, but it can not be denied that it decays so slowly here. When it gets cold then, I’ll probably fly somewhere warm for a few weeks back.
Very hot in the race for the wet cold November is Southeast Asia. Especially Chiang Mai in Thailand is to narrow the selection. I like to spend Christmas at home and for January and February I will then probably something looking me in Latin America, to finally expand my Spanish there.
Here are ten distant cities, which are well suited, in my view for the winter. All I have already visited in the past two years and will sooner or later certainly end up back there.
Oaxaca
My favorite city in Mexico is actually Oaxaca. It is much smaller than the capital and almost acts already country. In the immediate surroundings there there beautiful nature and a lot of culture in the form of pyramids and temples. In downtown you can find enough cafes where cavort other laptop working. The climate in winter is similar to pleasant as in Mexico City.
Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is in addition to the two Mexican cities one of the few places that I have visited twice – and also against a third time, I would not mind. Perhaps it is something in this fall. I like the calmness in Chiang Mai. The city is not nearly as hectic as Bangkok, there are plenty of cafes and bars, but also culture. The scooter is a great place to explore the city, or the surrounding areas with its waterfalls, the temples or the backpacker hotspot Pai. Compared to the winter residences previously called Chiang Mai is also much cheaper.
Cape Town
Of all the cities that I have visited, Cape Town is the most beautiful winter residence. When it gets cold with us, begins in South Africa the best time. During my nine days Cape Town usually the sun was shining, it was warm, but not too hot. The city is quite safe for South African conditions. The standard is very high, while it is a bit cheaper than in Europe. In the extended region so beautiful regions are like the Garden Route and Cape Town itself also faces the sea. After Cape Town I would not hesitate to travel again!
Wellington
The capital of New Zealand is one of my favorite cities ever. I enjoyed the time very time, though I spent in hostel dorms and had to move twice. In Wellington, although it may be fresh in the summer, when the sea breeze blows. But in February last year the weather was ideal. The city reminds architecturally in San Francisco and works in general young and fresh. With only 450,000 inhabitants, it is smaller than Leipzig and the paths are never really far. Their only problem: It lies on the other side of the world!
Mexico City
Also to Mexico I could at any time to travel again. And the capital is much more beautiful than its reputation. The climate is very pleasant in winter. Due to the high location of more than 2,200 meters, it is only 20 to 25 degrees warm. In winter it is also quite dry. The city is partly very modern – but the feel-good factor strongly depends on the district in which you reside. I felt both my visits very pleasant.
HoChiMinh City (Saigon)
At the bustle of Saigon you have to get used to, to spend a good time. If you can do that, you will find the time to drive in this city several options. Also in the surrounding area you can experience a lot. A trip to the Mekong Delta, a weekend at the beach resort of Mui Ne, or a short flight to the island of Phu Quoc. In Saigon is the largest expat scene in Vietnam. So you do not work in one of the many cafes once alone. Priced the city is hardly beatable.
Singapore
Singapore is likely to be well suited for all those who, although Southeast Asian flair want but western standards. This city offers both, but is also so much more expensive than all the countries in the region. Singapore is pretty tight, yet there are some green areas, in which one can retire without long ways. As Southeast Asian hub is Singapore is also ideal for short trips in surrounding countries.
Sydney
Now we come to the most expensive city in this list. The wherewithal is needed even to a few months to live in Sydney. If you can get over that, you will find in Sydney a lot of nice neighborhoods with small cafes and restaurants. Additionally you can wonderfully combine city life with sun, beach and sea. Several beaches are very easy to reach by public transport. Those who like to like something small, it can safely withstand well even in Byron Bay 800 kilometers distant. For Australian conditions a stone’s throw! And the eternal competitors Melbourne can be found in the lists of the most livable cities in the world are often far ahead again.
Bangkok
My relationship with Bangkok is quite split. This metropolis I connect rush and deafening tuk tuks. But it is also a city full of opportunities, where there is never a dull moment. In addition, there should also be quiet corners, which I had just not found the time (but also not wanted). In Bangkok, many foreigners who you can meet in cafes or co-working spaces live. Priced Bangkok is the opposite of Sydney. Here you can get much more for your money and the city is also much better from Europe.
San Francisco
San Francisco is not a classical winter residence. But it happens to be one of my favorite cities, and so it will not really wintry there. In the summer it will not really hot and not really cold in the winter. The best season is autumn. Thus, San Francisco is at least one perfect autumn residence. Warmer alternatives are significantly further south with Los Angeles or San Diego. But they are not half as beautiful as San Francisco.
In these ten cities, I could well imagine to spend the winter – at least for a few weeks. I believe that I have none of these ten last seen. Sooner or later, I return to all. But there are also still exploring other winter residences – eg Buenos Aires in Argentina or Medellin in Colombia. Maybe suitable even many a European city for the winter (Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome)? Who is not so much on large cities, of course, has a lot more choices. Anyone who has the freedom, has also spoiled for choice.
