I will not be carried away often to expressions of love. I’m that no human being euphoric. But in Mexico it is not difficult to me. In the last three months I felt there sauwohl and recommend it unreservedly as a travel destination.
And that’s what I have so far done well. Whenever someone asked, I mutatis mutandis said: “Yes, Mexico, since towards kannste.”
This is now the last of a total of 17 articles about Mexico. This series I would like to duly complete by I write times, what exactly to Mexico I actually like so. Furthermore I had even once think, because so far it was just a feeling.
Now it is here, in writing. 10 Reasons Why I Love Mexico.
1. Mexico is varied
Mexico offers a lot of variety, and that is particularly important to me on longer trips. Time I was on a white beach, then in a colonial city, followed by pyramids, a city of millions, a 3,500 meter high mountain, and cenotes on a dream island.
Many a country was overrun touristy, others almost untouched and intervened only short bus rides. I would almost say, for everyone is something.
2. The beautiful colonial cities
In Mexico, there are a number of cities whose center shines with colonial-style buildings. Especially in the evening you can stroll through the streets there easily, while churches and other buildings are beautifully illuminated. Often music is played, the people are with their friends and families on the streets or gather at the central square.
Add to my favorite colonial towns include Oaxaca and San Cristobal de las Casas and Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, I visited five years ago.
3. Water Access
For many travelers, access to the sea is particularly important. Top with beautiful beaches. In Mexico, there are many opportunities to come into or to the water.
At first you think it is certainly on the Pacific with resorts like Zipolite, Puerto Escondido and some more – or to the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean Sea. There you are standing times from the open sea with high waves, even in a quiet place where you can bathe in the green-blue waters, snorkel or dive into.
But not only in the sea you can swim. There are also beautiful lakes such as Laguna de Bacalar in the Yucatan and of course the numerous cenotes, likewise on the peninsula.
4. A pleasant climate
Climate I have found very pleasant in Mexico. There are actually not one climate, because here the Mexican variety comes into play.
In Yucatán it’s mostly hot and humid, but not unpleasant. If it is not raining, the sky is bright blue sea, wonderful turquoise blue and the green palms do the rest of the Caribbean feeling.
Inside the country, it is much cooler, as most places are dominant. In Mexico City, Oacaxa or San Cristóbal it is during the day very relaxed with 20-25 degrees. Warm enough for loose clothing. So if you is not on profuse sweating, (and some would but miss) can even avoid entirely in Mexico.
5. Modern conveniences
I like it comfortable. Well, that’s relative. Compared to most travelers I’m probably still quite uncomfortable traveling. But when I compare myself with backpackers, especially the younger, then I have to admit, appreciate a few modern conveniences very.
For example, a bus, where you can sit comfortably, perhaps may be sometimes even productive. Or good Wifi, cozy cafes for loitering, reading and working, and of course, accommodations that offer more than just a bed.
They give it away in Mexico. Not for the price of Southeast Asia, but still low.
6. An underrated capital
Mexico City is an underrated city that suffers from its reputation. However, I found the first and very pleasant at the second visit. As so often occurs simply on where you are staying. I have found the right places, where I could feel comfortable.
For me, as a lover of comfort Mexico City is a pleasant town. Not only because of the cafes and restaurants and the availability of everything you might need, but also because of the good public transport system (Metro).
7. Very tasty food
The Mexican food is excellent, at least to my liking. With a decent breakfast the day already starts well. My Favorites: Enfrijoladas and Huevos Motulenos. The rest of the day can be satisfied with quesadillas, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas or burritos. Only chili con carne has nothing to do with Mexico.
Compared to Southeast Asia I had in Mexico, incidentally, hardly stomach problems. A nice bonus.
8. A beautiful language
No other language I would want to learn during my trip as Spanish. It sounds nice, is relatively easy to learn and for travelers it is simply useful. In Mexico, the debate is understandable.
With English is in Mexico’s often difficult, therefore forced myself this country almost to the language course. Three weeks it can be done without, but who wants to stay there longer, should learn Spanish. It simply is more fun!
9. The Pyramids & Temples
The many ruins are a good alternative if you even want to leave the city or a beach Koller succumbs. The selection is large and spread over the entire country. Some ruins are crowded touristy, while others do not.
A nice overview of the main pyramids and temples can be found here.
10. Friendly people
Yes, there are friendly people anywhere in the world. But not everywhere you will be treated as a tourist always amicable. Sometimes one is just a money machine. That there is here and there in Mexico, but on the whole it is either left alone or taken interest-friendly. To me it is in any case made a positive impression
Bonus: Safer than its reputation
The country is safer than its reputation. OK, that is no reason to love it the same. Therefore, it is a bonus information that I wanted to mention here.
Mexico’s reputation is not the best. In the media, we hear only negative and settles eventually. But the spot I experienced something completely different. As a tourist, you have the best chances namely, unmolested to travel around the country.
